Copyright 2006 Diane Hughes

As entrepreneurs we spend a long time in the planning stages of business building. We develop big dreams for our business but sometimes the profits don't come in nearly as quickly. While you may be building and massaging your current product line, you can also create wealth with these 4 secrets to additional profit.

If you are a seasoned entrepreneur, these might be smart ideas for you to consider. If you are a new business owner, these might not be right for you right now, but keep them in mind for the near future and intentionally plan to implement them over time.

1. Sell ancillary products and up-sell every time. You may have a main product but you should have other products to sell, too. Offer them in conjunction with your primary product as a way to help increase your customer's enjoyment.

2. Become a Consultant. Consulting is nice because there is not a cost involved; just your time. Consulting puts you on the map as the expert in your business. Your core customers will turn to you for consulting work and for your products and the value they perceive from both will be much higher.

3. Become a trainer. There are a number of ways you can do this: You can offer online seminars or webinars, offer classes at http://www.universalclass.com or teach in your area of expertise at a local community college or adult education class. Again, the perception of value will increase among your prospects when they learn that you teach others.

4. Sell information. Selling information ? especially digital information ? is huge. There are all kinds of valuable e-books and software you can sell, available here http://www.NetProfitSecrets.com. If you don't already sell it, the cost per unit decreases with every sale, making it a low-cost/high-profit way to earn great money.

5. Sell a System. Check out a site like http://www.carpet-cleaning-equipment.net. It just looks like any other vacuum cleaner company. But when you click on the "start your own business" link, you'll notice that they bundle their vacuum cleaners with some ideas to make money with the vacuum cleaner. That way, they're no longer selling a vacuum cleaner but a way to make money. It's not a franchise or MLM? they're just selling their vacuum cleaners and some information. But it seems like a business opportunity. Can you do that in your business?

6. Ask for referrals. I don't know how I can put this any more clearly: always, always, always, always ask for referrals. Always. Create referral coupons that give people some kind of reward or "kickback".

In most areas, there is a person nearby who can fix your broken vacuum cleaner. Whether they specialize in vacuum cleaner repairs only or if they do repairs on a wide variety of motor driven home appliances, they should be able to easily fix your broken machine.

If you have one of the less pricey models, you might want to consider buying a new one before having someone repair it for you. The hourly fee for labor and the costs of parts may not warrant the repair price, unless of course you simply have to have the vacuum cleaner that you've grown accustomed to for a long time. An honest repair service will tell you that upon examination, which is usually free unless the problem is not easily diagnosed on the surface.

In most situations, when you find a repair shop and bring in your broken vacuum cleaner, they'll ask you a few simple questions. Obviously, if you knew what was wrong, you'd fix it yourself. All most people know when they bring in their broken machine is that it's broken. The repair shop will ask you what was happening when it stopped. He'll ask how old it is and a few other pertinent questions so he can make a quick evaluation of the problem. Then he'll give a quick examination to the obvious moving parts and if he sees something, he'll be able to tell you immediately what's going on and what it will take to fix it.

If he can't diagnose the problem quickly, you'll have to leave the unit in the shop, pay a small fee for him to determine the nature of the problem and discuss the matter over the phone before he makes the repairs. You can then decide if you want to go for the cost of repairing your vacuum cleaner or if you'd rather junk the old one and buy a new one..

The first person to patent a machine for cleaning was David Hess in the year 1860. Housewives all over America had turned to using rugs and carpets, a trait brought over by the waves of immigrants coming from Europe, to cover their bare wood floors and keep the dust and dirt to a minimum. When they were dirty, they had to be carried outside, suspended somehow in the air and then beaten with a metal rod or heavy wooden stick.

A bit later someone invented a small, tennis racket-looking device called a rug beater for precisely this purpose. Mr. Hess soon realized that there was probably an easier way to clean rugs without all the fuss and mess and he invented the Carpet Sweeper which had a rotating brush combined with a bellows system that created suction. His amazing invention also used two water chambers to trap the dust and fine dirt. The only problem with Mr. Hess' machine is that there is no proof it was ever produced.

After Mr. Hess' invention, there came a period of wilder and weirder inventions that sought to accomplish the same thing. In the late 1870's, Melville Bissell (sound familiar?) marketed a carpet sweeper that picked up the dirt and dropped it into a pan behind the rotating brush. In 1899, John Thurman invented a gasoline-powered vacuum cleaner that is credited as being the first motorized version. In 1901 Hubert Booth of London invented the electric vacuum, a device so large that it was parked outside the house and a 100-foot long hose snaked its way inside and did the dirty work.

The device was so popular that housewives all over London held vacuum parties to enjoy the event. It wasn't until 1908 when James Spangler, a janitor in Ohio, invented the first portable, suction cleaner -- the precursor to today's high tech machines. He sold his patent to his cousin's husband, William Hoover (also familiar?) and the rest, as they say is history..

There are dozens of vacuum cleaner manufacturers producing hundreds of different types and styles of machines around the world. Cheap, lightweight machines coming out of China and Japan, to the efficient but unwieldy German types and the multi-functional machines coming from American manufacturers, there are a lot of choices on the market today. Determining which brand or which model might be called the best vacuum cleaners in the world depends on what the consumer is looking for.

One of the popular brands is Miele. With over 100 years of experience producing high quality machines, Miele consistently delivers outstanding results. The Miele vacuum is the world's first-ever certified vacuum cleaner due to the unequalled capture and retention of dust particles that their design produces. Their machines provide years of consistent, trouble-free performance even under conditions that would make lesser machines break down.

Known for making a dependable, powerful and yet lightweight line of different vacuum cleaners, Eureka has turned itself into one of the largest manufacturers in the world. Owned since the 1960's by Electrolux, the combined company claims 25% of the market for home appliances around the world.

Hoover, originally an English company, has marketed its name to such a high degree that the word "hoover" has become synonymous with vacuum cleaner much the same way that "Xerox" has become synonymous with copy machines in America. Known for its lightweight and powerful models that housewives have grown to love, their reliability and dependability has become legendary. For a lot of people, Hoover is their vacuum cleaner forever.

Another English company with a well-respected line of vacuum cleaners and a good market share in America, Dyson has been around for a long time. Known lately for "the ball," which is making other manufacturers rethink their design strategies, Dyson is known for pushing the envelope on design features that make life easier for anyone who has to vacuum anything. "The ball" is a rubberized motor cover on an upright vacuum that allows the entire sucking apparatus to turn and pivot with much less effort than other uprights. Pretty soon, if Dyson has their way, you'll be seeing ads for other brands using some altered version of "the ball" on their new models.

A 65-year old company, Rainbow, has the only unique filtration system being used today. Rainbow vacuums use a water canister in the housing to filter the air through, which results in a much higher retention of dust and particulates than with any other filtration system. Combine this unique feature with a reputation for reliability, flexibility and dependability and you have the Rainbow line of vacuum cleaners.

The first Kirby vacuum, incorporating toe-touch control and a belt-driven brush roller, was made available to the public in 1935. Ever since, the Kirby vacuum has had a loyal and dedicated following that swears by its durability and effectiveness.

Every fall, millions of lady bugs (or what seems like millions) swarm around my house here in west central Wisconsin, looking for a place to spend the winter.Actually, they are not "true" lady bugs. They are "Multi-Colored Asian Lady Beetles." The beetles are beneficial to the environment because they control aphids. And from what I've read, the multicolored lady beetles are much better at controlling aphids than the 'real' lady bugs. How can you tell the difference between native lady bugs and the multicolored beetles? Lady bugs are bright red. The multicolored lady beetles come in shades of orange, from light to dark. They also have many variations of patterns of spots. Some have almost no spots at all, and some have many spots. When you look closely at the multicolored lady beetles, it doesn't seem much of a stretch to say that no two are alike.Unfortunately, on warm, sunny fall days, the swarms of lady beetles are so thick around my house that in the afternoon, I hesitate to even go outside to get the mail. The beetles land in my hair, crawl behind my glasses and work their way down the collar of my shirt. Thousands of the bugs also find ways into my walk-out basement. I have swept them up by the snow-shovel-full (literally). My basement faces south, and the insects are attracted to light-colored structures with southern, sunny exposures that are on a hillside. The beetles come in around the screen door upstairs, too, and the next thing you know, I've got hundreds of them crawling on the walls and across the ceiling. In the spring, when it warms up, the beetles emerge from their winter hiding places. Beginning in March, dozens of beetles crawl around my home office, the kitchen, the dining room, the basement and in other parts of the house, looking for a way to get outside.Multi-Colored Asian Lady Beetles are not harmful when they are inside the house, although they can be annoying if present in significant numbers. It's a little disconcerting to pick up your coffee cup and almost swallow a beetle that has landed in your coffee or is crawling around the rim of the cup. And two or three lady beetles landing in your bowl of soup can definitely make you lose you appetite. If you have company coming, you also don't want guests to find lady beetles in their food or beverages.Although the beetles are not necessarily harmful if they're inside the house, when they swarm in the fall, they can create problems if they crawl into furnace vent pipes and plug them up. I have heard of them plugging attic vents, as well. And one woman reported to my husband (he is an Internet technician), that a lady bug crawled inside of her computer and shorted it out. When the beetles are present in large numbers, you can also smell them. The odor is a little like burned rubber or hot asphalt. When the beetles are threatened, the odor is particularly strong. They apparently view being swept off the walls (or vacuumed off) as a threatening situation. Sometimes when threatened, the beetles ooze an orange liquid, as well. I have read that the liquid can stain walls and fabrics, although I have not yet seen any evidence of that around my own house. Here are five ways that I've found to deal with lady bug infestations:? Vacuum up the beetles with the vacuum cleaner attachment. This may be somewhat time-consuming but it is a non-toxic and safe method to remove the bugs. As far as I'm concerned, time-consuming doesn't seem so important when thousands of lady beetles are invading my house. When vacuuming up large numbers of Multi-Colored Asian Lady Beetles, be sure that you don't leave the attachment hose draped across the vacuum cleaner in preparation for the next vacuuming session, otherwise the beetles will soon find their way out of the vacuum bag and will be crawling around the house again. One woman from my hometown says she solves this problem by stuffing a paper towel into the end of the vacuum hose.? Seal up cracks or spaces around doors and windows, if possible. Sealing up cracks and spaces will make it more difficult for the beetles to get into the house in the first place. The beetles do not need much space to crawl through. Even a door that fits the frame quite well may still leave enough space to allow the beetles access to your house. ? Spray around door frames and window frames with a bug spray containing pyrethrins or permethrin. I have discovered that the beetles will avoid crawling across bug spray with pyrethrins or permethrin, or if they do crawl across it, they die in a short while. I don't particularly like to spray bug spray inside my house, but when it's a matter of spraying or letting thousands of lady bugs into the house, spraying seems like the lesser of the two evils. I don't like killing the beetles, either, and would just as soon "live and let live," but I draw the line at a house-full of beetles.? Use the garden hose to spray the beetles off the side of the house. In the fall, when the beetles are crawling on the outside of my house by the hundreds of thousands (sometimes it's almost difficult to see what color the house is because there are so many beetles), I take the garden hose and use the sprayer attachment to spray them off the side of the house. To make an impact, this must be done two or three times a day on days when the swarms are active. I have also used an attachment for the garden hose that allows me to spray a soap-and-water mixture on the house. I haven't noticed that a soap solution is really any more effective at knocking the beetles off the house, although the exterior walls are cleaner when I'm finished!? Learn to tolerate the Multi-Colored Asian Lady Beetles.I keep telling myself that the Multi-Colored Asian Lady Beetles are swarming around my house because they are only trying to survive the winter ? just like all living things try to survive. In the insect world, the beetles are known as predators because they eat aphids and other plant pests. A few years from now, the beetles may be in a low cycle, and then, perhaps, I will wish there were more of them when the aphids begin attacking crops, gardens and flowering plants. (I still don't want the beetles invading my house by the thousands, though.)********************Copyright 2004 LeAnn R. Ralph.

Ralph.

A single unit will eliminates up to 85% of airborne microorganisms in a typical room. Air purifier ratings, reviews, comparisons, and reports by consumer experts are available. The company recently conducted a fungus test utilizing strawberries. They placed two strawberries from the same box, from the same store, purchased on the same day in two identical rooms. One of the rooms was protected by Airfree; the other was not.A picture was taken of each strawberry every 12 hours. You can view the time lapsed photography at the following link. http://vacuum-supplies.com/aienrl60.html .
Ever since the early nineteen nineties, bagless vacuum cleaners have been chipping away at the market dominance of their bagged vacuum cleaner counterpart. Claiming to best the bagged variety of cleaner in a number of different ways, bagless vacuum cleaners generally carry a higher price tag too. For the most part, you get what you pay for with bagless vacuum cleaners; so even if you are on a budget, don’t let the price tag put you off.

Purchasing a vacuum cleaner is, for most people, a necessary evil, and many of us try to spend as little of our hard earned cash on these household cleaners as we possibly can. For this reason, the price of bagless vacuum cleaners can seem a little like a waste of money. But even if all the talk of continuous vacuum cleaning power and no loss of suction doesn’t convince you, bagless vacuum cleaners really can be well worth the price.

For a start, bagless vacuum cleaners don’t require the regular investment involved in purchasing vacuum cleaner bags. It’s true that bagless vacuum cleaners do require maintenance, but what cleaner doesn’t, and the best vacuum bagless vacuum cleaners will offer filters that can be washed several times before requiring replacement. This factor alone is significant enough to a large number of consumers to push any bagless vacuum cleaner rating up a few notches.

While they do involve a larger initial expenditure, the best bagless vacuum cleaners will be sturdily made and should last a long time. Check out a bagless vacuum cleaner rating before you choose the cleaner for you, as these are invaluable in providing you with the inside scoop on bagless vacuum cleaners. Read the words of the consumers who have been there before you to ensure that you get one of the best bagless vacuum cleaners for you.

There’s no denying that bagless vacuum cleaners tend to be more expensive than their bagged counterparts, but any bagless vacuum cleaner rating will testify that you really do get a better clean with a vacuum that’s easy to maintain. And while there are a few cheap bagless vacuum cleaners available, it’s best to steer clear of them and opt for a sturdily made cleaner produced by a reliable manufacturer. Once you spend a little extra investing in bagless vacuum cleaners, you won’t ever go back to bagged.

Adversity, What Is It Good For

As I sat down to write this article, I was reflecting back over the last week ? a week filled with adversity. We all go through it and it is during those times that we may often wonder what is it all for anyway? What is the point? What is it good for?I decided to look up the word, adversity, from my old American Heritage Dictionary. The word is defined as "1. A state of hardship or affliction; misfortune. 2. A calamitous event." It was all of the above for my husband and me. We had what most home owners hope to avoid ? a major plumbing problem. Oh the thought sends shivers up my spine! Nothing like this ever happens when it's convenient or when you have stockpiled loads of money ? as if! While you're going through it all, you wonder "Why me? Why now? Why EVER???" Then you get the problem fixed, breathe a sigh of relief, and wait for the next calamitous event to hit! Sounds rather pessimistic doesn't it?No, not really, because that is life. Over the last year we've survived two computer crashes, resulting in the purchase of a new computer system (after the first crash and before the second), our dog having an allergic reaction to the medicine he was put on to get well (which is why I went completely to all natural care), both cars needing major repairs, and our A/C needing to be replaced. Then last week this plumbing problem happened ? not to mention our vacuum cleaner broke and my husband got in a fender bender all in the same week! That does not include the myriad of other "little" things that happen during the normal course of life. I could've sat down and had a great big pity party OR better I could discover what I've learned from all this and put it to use. You know the old saying when you get handed lemons you can squish up your face in bitterness or you can get better and make lemonade? Well, I decided to learn what God's plan was for me in all this and take the high road to lemonade. Now I know you'll be thinking that I'm going to hand you this wonderful explanation and revelation so we can all go merrily down the road of life happily ever after. Not so - but it is inspirational I hope!My husband and I did lots of knee bends last week - you know the ones where you bend them to the floor and look up fervently in expectation hoping that God will just take the situation miraculously away and you'll go on your merry way? Don't laugh; you know you've done it too! Well, that didn't happen but what we did discover is that God is always in control. He allows adversity in our lives to grow our faith or to get your attention on Him. If we never go through any valleys how will we know when we've reached a mountain top? How will we know if the mountain is even any good if all our lives we stay up on the mountain and never experience any valleys? I know we'd all like to avoid those "valleys" at all costs, but the most growth for anything happens during adversity. You can take a look at nature to see that is true. A butterfly doesn't just change into a butterfly from the larvae (caterpillar state) until it has traversed the difficulty of climbing the tree, building a cocoon, staying there for a while, and then, with difficulty, breaking out of that cocoon to emerge a beautiful butterfly. It might sound like no big deal to us, but look at it from the standpoint of a caterpillar and you'll change your tune.God taught me and my husband that through all these trials, these hardships, these bummers, that He will provide and He does care. He wanted my trust in Him fully and completely. God has always had to get my attention with the old 2X4 method. This time the 2X4 was very literal ? as in 2 feet deep (under the foundation of our house) and 4 feet wide! I can laugh at the imagery now but it sure wasn't funny while we were going through that valley, I'll tell you! I know now that my faith was being thoroughly tested and all I kept hearing God say to me throughout this whole ordeal was "Trust Me". Jesus allowed His disciples to experience many trials as a test of their faith, not the least of them the storm on the Sea of Galilee (Matthew 8:25). He doesn't want us to solve our problems our way, He wants us to lean on Him and trust His provision. My husband I did just that. We didn't wait to go to God as a last resort; no He was our first resort. There is nothing too big nor too complicated God can't handle, after all, He created all things. He allows these adversities into our lives to get our attention, to grow us in Him. He tells us to abide in Him and He'll abide in us. That was the whole point and He really got my attention, again! You know, the whole situation was a learning experience in God's provision, in trusting Him. My dog understood that from the "get go". He kept bringing the plumbers his toys, and "talking" to them which got us all laughing of course. The plumbing crew was one of the best I've ever had the misfortune to have to deal with (smile). They were so professional and worked so diligently and they did all they could to make a bad situation right again. The upside to this story: I was able to meet some new, hard working people last week. I was able to see my dog make a clown of himself. I was able to play around with our shampooer in lieu of having a vacuum cleaner. Therefore my carpets got real clean AND I got a new vacuum! Lastly, my regular routine was changed up a lot which helped me get outside of myself to see all of the many blessings God has bestowed upon me. I was able, through the adversity, to see God's purpose. I may not have seen His purpose had He taken it away altogether. So, no matter the situation, know that God is in control and that He has very good reasons for allowing adversity into our lives..

So, how come my cat has got fleas? Cats that are allowed outside pick up fleas by socializing with other cats or just by walking through territory where other cats have been.Think that your indoor only cat is safe? Not so, fleas can travel into your home on your clothing (white garments seem particularly attractive to fleas). Once inside your home they easily transfer themselves to your cat who is a much more desirable host.A cat that has picked up fleas may scratch vigorously around its neck and may groom the spine obsessively. Using a metal flea comb groom your cat paying attention to behind the ears, the neck and the base of the spine. Make sure that the comb reaches your cat's skin. If you find black, or deep brown gritty specks on the comb put these on a dampened tissue. If red seeps from them they are flea droppings, which are composed of dried blood. Fleas lay their eggs in your cat's fur. These eggs fall out and hatch into larvae in your cats bedding, cracks in the floor boards, in upholstery and in your carpets. The larvae evolve into fleas that attach themselves and feed from any host that comes by, your cat being ideal. Fleas live anything from two months to two years, and can be feeding for a good deal of that time. Many anti-flea preparations, such as shampoos, sprays and powders are available from veterinary offices and pet stores. You will want to treat both your cat and your home.. Sprays that are designed to be long lasting are the best bet for ridding your home of fleas but before using the spray, vacuum all carpeting, drapes, mattresses and upholstered furniture making sure that you vacuum underneath the furniture. Vacuum and then wash your cat's bedding in very hot water. Before you start, pop a mothball into the cleaner bag and when you are satisfied that you have vacuumed thoroughly seal the cleaner bag in a plastic bag and dispose of it outside. If you are opposed to the use of chemicals, fill a shallow bowl with sudsy water and stand a safety candle (night light) just above it. Alternatively use a battery light. In the dark fleas will jump at the light, fall into the water and drown. This will work but you will need at the least one for each room, and you may not get every last one of the fleas. If your cat is allowed into your garden keep your lawn cut and free of weeds. The larvae of fleas love a humid environment and hate sunlight. Remove any piles of leaves or earth from your cat's territory. Ask your veterinarian about treatment for your cat. One of the most effective treatments is a parasiticide that is applied to a small area at the back of the neck. There are products that control fleas by preventing them from reproducing. Give your cat a bath once a week. If your cat simply refuses to be bathed ask your vet about alternative methods..

Need A Vacuum Cleaner? Best Rated Vacuums Can Be Found

So which cleaning system gets the vote of vacuum cleaner best rated? Though it isn't difficult to locate, especially with the help of the Internet, a vacuum cleaners rating, it seems that very few of the ratings and reviews agree. As is the wont of we fickle humans, it seems that vacuum cleaner best rated depends largely on personal preference.

It is very difficult to identify one vacuum cleaner best rated, though the job becomes easier when categories of vacuum cleaner are introduced. While opinions in any vacuum cleaner consumer rating differ on whether a bagged or bagless vacuum is best, there are trends within each category that help narrow down the contenders for vacuum cleaner best rated. In the bagless category, the high profile Dyson vacuums are often thought to be the vacuum cleaner best rated, but many expert reviews and vacuum cleaner consumer rating do not bear this out. It is the perhaps lesser-known Bissell brand of vacuum that frequently receives a high vacuum cleaners rating.

In the bagged category, other perhaps less well-known manufacturers are voted vacuum cleaner best rated, with makers Kenmore and Eureka rating ahead of other names. Across both bagged and bagless vacuum categories a number of other cleaning requirements must be addressed, such as the size of the area that will need to be cleaned, and how much use will be required. Vacuum price must also be a consideration when assigning a vacuum cleaners rating, as you really do get what you pay for. Once again, it is Bissell that does well as vacuum cleaner best rated in terms of price, but if you have more money to spend on a cleaner, brands like Oreck and Kirby receive a high vacuum cleaner consumer rating.

Unfortunately for consumers, it is difficult to cite one cleaner as vacuum cleaner best rated, but with the help of a reliable vacuum cleaner consumer rating, it is possible to narrow down the list of vacuum contenders.
